PET Sheet for Toothbrush Blister Packaging: Material, Thickness & Формирование
Most clear toothbrush blisters can start with standard APET sheet. The more important questions come next: how deep is the blister, how will it be cut or sealed, and does the packaging line need a particular sheet surface? This guide looks at those decisions from a PET sheet manufacturer’s perspective.
01 What Does Toothbrush Blister Packaging Need from PET Sheet?
A toothbrush is lightweight, but its packaging can be demanding on a thin plastic sheet. The blister often has an elongated shape, a deeper area around the brush head and narrower sections along the handle. Some packages also include space for accessories or a hanging display feature.
For the sheet supplier, three requirements matter most: clarity, consistent forming and reliable converting performance. A transparent blister should display the toothbrush cleanly, form without excessive whitening or thinning, and work with the customer’s cutting and closing process.
| Packaging requirement | What it means for the PET sheet |
|---|---|
| Clear product display | Low haze, consistent transparency and a clean sheet surface. |
| Long, shaped cavity | Suitable forming behavior around the brush head and handle. |
| High-volume converting | Stable gauge, winding, cutting and batch-to-batch consistency. |
| Card-backed or closed blister | Surface and sealing compatibility matched to the actual closing method. |
02 APET, RPET or GAG: Which Sheet Should You Choose?
APET is our first material to consider for a conventional clear toothbrush blister. It offers the clarity and rigidity needed for retail display, with a familiar thermoforming route for many converters.
RPET and GAG can also be useful, but they should solve a particular purchasing or converting requirement rather than simply increase the number of materials on the shortlist.
| Материал | When we would consider it | Key purchasing checks |
|---|---|---|
| Clear APET | Standard transparent toothbrush blisters and conventional forming lines. | Clarity, gauge, forming depth, surface condition and trim performance. |
| Пост | Projects that specify recycled content in the PET sheet. | Recycled percentage, color tint, haze, batch consistency and forming trials. |
| Лист GAG | Applications where PETG surface layers provide a useful converting or forming benefit. | Layer structure, cutting response, forming behavior and compatibility with the existing process. |
When standard APET is enough
If a clear APET blister already meets the required appearance, forming and cutting performance, there is no need to switch materials automatically. An established APET specification can be a sensible choice for repeat purchasing.
When RPET deserves a trial
RPET is worth evaluating when recycled content is part of the customer’s specification. We would compare approved samples for transparency, tint, surface appearance and forming consistency. Recycled content alone does not guarantee identical converting behavior across suppliers.
When GAG may offer an advantage
For some demanding converting applications, the PETG outer layers of GAG sheet can influence forming and cutting behavior. That can be useful when the existing material creates production difficulties, but the advantage should be confirmed on the actual equipment.

03 Choosing Sheet Thickness for Toothbrush Blisters
Toothbrush blister thickness depends on more than the weight of the brush. Cavity depth, flange width, rigidity after forming and the cutting process can all affect the starting sheet gauge.
A slim blister for a manual toothbrush may not need the same sheet thickness as a package with a bulky brush head, an electric toothbrush accessory or a larger cavity.
| Application format | Initial gauge to evaluate* | What matters most |
|---|---|---|
| Shallow single-toothbrush blister | Approx. 0.20–0.35 mm | Clarity, basic rigidity and cutting consistency. |
| Standard shaped toothbrush blister | Approx. 0.30–0.50 mm | Brush-head draw, wall thickness and package stiffness. |
| Deeper or larger-format blister | Approx. 0.45–0.70 mm | Corner thinning, forming definition and rigidity. |
| Specialty or multi-item pack | Project-specific | Total cavity geometry, line requirements and material grade. |
*These are preliminary discussion ranges, not tested specifications for every toothbrush pack. Final gauge must be confirmed through the customer’s forming and packaging trials.
04 Surface Treatment, Cutting and Blister Closing
Two suppliers may quote clear PET sheet at the same thickness while offering different surface specifications. For toothbrush blister converters, those differences can matter.
| Converting requirement | What to discuss with the sheet supplier |
|---|---|
| Easy sheet separation and feeding | Surface condition, anti-block or slip requirements where applicable. |
| Clean cutting | Material grade, gauge consistency and cutting behavior of APET or GAG. |
| Printing on PET | Suitable surface treatment and verification with the customer’s ink. |
| Sealing to printed card | Compatibility with the card coating, heat-seal system or specified sealing layer. |
| Blister-to-blister closing | The actual welding, heat-sealing or mechanical closing method. |
Not every ordinary APET sheet is automatically heat-sealable to cardboard. Sealing performance depends on the materials and coatings in the complete packaging system. If card sealing is required, please tell us before the sheet specification is finalized.
Likewise, silicone treatment, printing treatment and heat-seal functionality solve different problems. They should not be treated as interchangeable surface options.
05 When a Toothbrush Blister Does Not Form as Expected
When an existing blister causes production difficulties, we would rather understand the visible defect before suggesting a different PET grade or thicker sheet.
| Observed issue | Possible sheet-related consideration | Also verify |
|---|---|---|
| Whitening near a deep cavity | Grade suitability, excessive stretching or local material distribution. | Heating, draw geometry and forming conditions. |
| Blister feels too flexible | Starting gauge and rigidity after forming. | Finished cavity design and flange support. |
| Cracks or rough edges after cutting | Cutting response of the selected PET grade and thickness. | Die condition and cutting settings. |
| Unstable results between rolls | Gauge, material formulation and surface consistency. | Heating setup and incoming material records. |
Sometimes a revised material grade is useful. In other cases, the existing sheet is appropriate and the issue lies elsewhere in the process. The trial should establish the cause before a new bulk specification is approved.
06 Sheet Roll Specifications for Repeat Production
Once the blister appearance and forming performance are approved, the next concern is whether future material orders will behave consistently on the same production line.
DESU manufactures PET sheet rolls with customized dimensions and material options. For toothbrush packaging, the specification should include the details below rather than only “clear PET sheet.”
| Спецификация | Buyer information | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Тип материала | APET, RPET or GAG | Forming, appearance and converting behavior. |
| Толщина листа | Target gauge and tolerance | Rigidity and material distribution. |
| Ширина рулона | Usable web width and tolerance | Machine feeding and trimming allowance. |
| Появление | Clarity, tint, haze and defects | Retail display consistency. |
| Surface requirement | Standard, treated or other approved specification | Printing, handling and closing compatibility. |
| Roll configuration | Core diameter, maximum OD, roll weight and winding | Equipment and handling compatibility. |

08 Часто задаваемые вопросы
Is standard APET suitable for clear toothbrush blister packaging?
In many conventional clear blister applications, yes. Confirm the cavity depth, sheet thickness and cutting or sealing requirements before approval.
Can RPET replace APET for toothbrush blisters?
RPET can be evaluated when recycled content is required. Clarity, tint, forming performance and batch consistency should be approved through samples.
Does PET sheet need special treatment for blister-card sealing?
It depends on the card coating and sealing system. Untreated APET should not be assumed compatible with every blister-card heat-sealing process.
When is GAG worth considering instead of APET?
GAG may be useful when its layered structure provides a converting advantage, such as improved processing in a particular forming or cutting setup. Actual line trials should confirm it.
Can DESU supply customized PET sheet rolls?
Yes. Material type, thickness, width, surface specification and roll configuration can be discussed according to the application and production requirements.
