كيفية اختيار ورقة التشكيل الحراري للأكواب & اغطية

A practical sheet selection guide for thermoforming manufacturers and packaging converters choosing PET, PP or PS/HIPS sheet rolls for cold drink cups, cup lids, yogurt and dairy cups, dessert cups and related thermoformed packaging.

إجابة سريعة

ل clear cold drink cups and clear lids, PET is usually the first thermoforming sheet route to evaluate. For applications requiring better heat resistance or PP-based package compatibility, PP is generally the more relevant starting point. For yogurt, dairy and selected dessert cups, PS/HIPS remains an important material route where rigidity, efficient forming and an opaque or colored appearance are required.

Final sheet selection should also consider cup or lid geometry, starting gauge, rim stiffness, clarity or color, forming depth, closure method, roll width and actual thermoforming conditions.

01 Choose the Sheet Material From the Cup or Lid Application

A cold drink cup, yogurt cup and thermoformed lid may all be produced from sheet rolls, but they do not necessarily need the same material or sheet specification.

Start with the package application, required appearance, temperature conditions and closure system. These factors normally narrow the material route before detailed gauge and roll specifications are discussed.

Application Requirement Material to Evaluate First Sheet Purchasing Consideration
Clear cold drink cup حيوان أليف Clarity, stiffness, forming depth, rim quality, gauge and appearance.
Clear thermoformed cup lid حيوان أليف Clarity, snap-fit geometry, rim definition, trim quality and dimensional consistency.
Higher-temperature cup or lid application ص Actual use temperature, stiffness, forming window, gauge and closure compatibility.
Yogurt or dairy cup PS / الوركين Rigidity, impact requirement, cup depth, flange quality, color and sealing system.
Opaque or colored dessert cup PS / HIPS or PP Appearance, stiffness, temperature, forming depth and required closure method.
Cup and lid supplied as a matched system Material depends on the package design Rim dimensions, lid fit, temperature, rigidity and closure performance should be evaluated together.
Purchasing point: Do not choose cup sheet only by copying the material used for another container. A clear cold drink cup, yogurt cup and snap-fit lid can place very different demands on stiffness, forming depth, rim geometry, temperature and closure performance.

PET, PP and PS/HIPS provide different starting routes depending on the cup or lid application and required package performance.

02 Specify Starting Gauge From Geometry and Required Rigidity

Sheet thickness affects more than the amount of plastic in the finished part. During thermoforming, the starting sheet stretches into the cup or lid geometry, changing the wall thickness across the formed part.

A deeper cup usually places greater demands on material distribution than a shallow lid. At the same time, simply increasing starting gauge does not guarantee better forming or a better finished package.

Typical Cups & Lids Application 0.25–1.20 mm

هذا مفيد النطاق المرجعي للتطبيق, not DESU’s manufacturing thickness limit. Final starting gauge should be selected according to material, cup or lid geometry, forming depth, required rigidity, rim design and thermoforming conditions.

عمق التشكيل

Deep cups require more attention to wall distribution than shallow lids or low-profile parts.

Rim & Flange

The formed rim must remain stable enough for trimming, lid fit, sealing or other closure requirements.

الصرامة المطلوبة

Sidewall and rim stiffness should be evaluated after forming rather than from nominal sheet gauge alone.

Starting gauge is not final wall thickness. Material redistribution during forming can create different thicknesses at the cup wall, base, corner and rim. For deep cups especially, gauge should be evaluated together with mold geometry and actual forming conditions.

Cup depth, rim geometry and material distribution should be considered together when selecting the starting sheet gauge.

03 Turn the Material Choice Into a Production Roll Specification

“PET 0.5 mm” or “PS sheet for yogurt cups” is not a complete production specification. The purchased roll must also match the thermoforming line, mold layout and finished package requirements.

المعلمات للتأكيد قبل الإنتاج

مادة PET / PP / PS-HIPS
سماكة مقياس البداية الاسمي والتسامح المتفق عليه
عرض اللفة مطابقة لتخطيط القالب وعرض تغذية الآلة
مظهر واضح / طبيعي / أبيض / ملون كما هو مطلوب
Package Type Cup / lid / dairy cup / dessert cup / other
إنهاء Snap-fit lid / sealing film / other package system
تكوين لفة اللب أو لفة OD أو وزن اللفة وفقًا لمتطلبات الخط
كمية الكمية التجريبية والطلب المتوقع على الإنتاج

لماذا يجب أن يتبع عرض اللفة تخطيط القالب

Cup and lid molds often contain multiple cavities. Roll width should therefore be matched to the tooling layout and machine feeding width rather than selected independently. The correct width helps maintain machine compatibility while controlling edge waste and material utilization.

Existing production? Send the current sheet label, specification or sample. For an established cup or lid line, the current successful roll is usually the fastest reference for discussing an alternative supply.

04 Match the Sheet to the Cup or Lid Closure Requirement

The formed part does not work independently from the rest of the package. A cup may need a snap-fit thermoformed lid, sealing film or another closure system, while a lid must maintain the dimensions and rigidity needed to fit the cup.

Snap-Fit Lids

Rim geometry, dimensional consistency, stiffness and trim quality all influence how reliably a thermoformed lid fits the cup.

Film-Sealed Cups

For yogurt, dairy or other film-sealed cups, the sheet, flange geometry, lidding material and sealing process should be evaluated together.

مظهر & سطح

Clear PET cups emphasize transparency, while dairy and dessert cups may require natural, white or colored sheet depending on the package design.

Specify the package system, not only the cup material. Tell DESU whether the formed part is a cup or lid, how it will be closed, and what fit or sealing performance is required. This provides more useful information than the material name alone.

Cup material, rim geometry and closure method should be evaluated as one packaging system.

05 Approve the Sheet on the Actual Cup or Lid Tool

Incoming sheet thickness and appearance are important, but the final approval point is how the sheet behaves on the intended thermoforming machine and mold.

This is especially important when changing material, reducing gauge, producing a deeper cup, introducing a new lid design or changing the package closure system.

STEP 01 Confirm Sheet

Material, gauge, width, appearance and closure requirements.

STEP 02 تشغيل القالب

Process the sheet on the intended cup or lid thermoforming tooling.

الخطوة 03 Inspect the Part

Check walls, base, rim, clarity, stiffness and trim behavior.

الخطوة 04 Check Closure

Confirm lid fit or sealing performance before regular production supply.

ما الذي يجب التحقق منه بعد التشكيل؟

  • Wall and base thickness distribution
  • Cup or lid dimensional consistency
  • Rim and flange definition
  • Sidewall rigidity after forming
  • Clarity or surface appearance where required
  • Whitening or visible stress
  • Trim quality and edge condition
  • Lid fit or sealing performance
  • التراص والإزالة عند الاقتضاء

The purpose of the trial is to confirm that the selected sheet specification works reliably with the customer’s mold, machine, geometry and closure system.

06 What to Send DESU for a Cups & Lids Sheet RFQ

If you already produce the cup or lid, start with your current sheet specification. For a new project, send as much of the following information as you have.

الكؤوس & Lids Thermoforming Sheet RFQ
طلب: cold drink cup / lid / yogurt cup / dairy cup / dessert cup / other
مادة: PET / PP / PS-HIPS / not decided
سمك الورقة: ___ مم / لم يقرر
عرض لفة: ___ مم
Appearance: واضح / طبيعي / أبيض / ملون
Cup or lid dimensions: ___
Forming depth: ___ مم
درجة حرارة الملء/الاستخدام: ___
Closure: snap-fit lid / sealing film / other / not decided

If some values are not yet known, leave them open. A current sheet label, cup or lid drawing, formed sample or machine information can often provide enough context to narrow the starting specification.

07 FAQ — Buying Thermoforming Sheet for Cups & اغطية

Which sheet material is commonly used for clear cold drink cups?

PET is a practical starting material for many clear cold drink cups because the application typically requires good transparency and formed-part rigidity. Final selection should still consider cup depth, gauge, rim design and actual forming conditions.

Can PS or HIPS sheet be used for yogurt and dairy cups?

Yes. PS/HIPS is an important thermoforming material route for yogurt, dairy and selected dessert cups, particularly where an opaque or colored appearance, rigidity and efficient forming are required. The exact sheet specification should be matched to cup geometry, impact requirement and sealing system.

When should PP be considered for a thermoformed cup or lid?

PP is generally worth evaluating where the package requires higher temperature resistance or where PP-based package compatibility is important. Actual filling and use temperatures should be provided when discussing the sheet specification.

What thickness of sheet should I order for cups and lids?

A practical application reference range is 0.25–1.20 mm, but this is not DESU’s manufacturing thickness limit or a universal recommendation. Starting gauge should be selected according to material, forming depth, geometry, required rigidity and final wall distribution.

Should a cup and its lid use the same material?

Not necessarily. Material selection depends on the package design, temperature requirement, appearance, rim geometry and closure system. The cup and lid should be evaluated as a matched package even when different material routes are used.

What should I provide when developing a new yogurt cup?

Provide the cup dimensions and depth, intended material if known, required color or appearance, filling and storage conditions, sealing method, roll width or machine feeding width and any available drawing or reference sample.

Does DESU manufacture finished cups and lids?

No. DESU supplies thermoforming plastic sheet and sheet rolls to cup, lid and packaging manufacturers that thermoform the finished products.
